Septran contains Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim. The Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim are antibiotics. They are used in combination to treat ear infections, urinary tract infections, bronchitis, and shigellosis and pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia. The drug combination may be used to treat other conditions not discussed in this post.

Before you start using Septran, contact a doctor and let him know if any of these conditions apply to you: liver or kidney disease, folic acid deficiency, HIV/AIDS, asthma, thyroid disease, porphyria, severe allergies, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, malnourished

Use Septran as prescribed. Never take a larger or smaller dose than prescribed. Symptoms may go away but you must use the dose for the whole prescribed period. The oral suspension needs to be shaken properly for at least 15 seconds before you measure the recommended dose. You can get the right dose measuring spoon or cup from a pharmacist. Always take a lot of fluids during the course of the treatment. You must also submit to the required tests which are meant to determine how your kidneys are reacting to the treatment.

Septran may cause unwanted side effects such as: shortness of breath, pale skin, trouble concentrating, severe dizziness, rapid heart rate, severe skin reaction (fever, sore throat, red or purple rush, skin pain, burning in the eyes), liver problems, low sodium levels in the body, cold or flu symptoms, swollen gums, difficulty swallowing, skin sores, sores in the mouth, mild rash, mild itching, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting.

Store at room temperature and far from direct heat and moisture.
